Frequently Asked Questions

Upstate Orthodontics

How much does orthodontic treatment cost?

The fee for an individual’s treatment is determined by a variety of factors, including the severity of the problem to be corrected, as well as the anticipated length of treatment. Upstate Orthodontics offers 2 arch Aligner treatment options starting as low as $2,850.

Our office offers an Interest Free In-Office payment plan to make orthodontic care affordable.

What will my insurance cover? Does your office accept my insurance?

Not all insurance plans cover orthodontic treatment, but many do. Please review the insurance benefit booklet provided by your employer to better understand your benefits. You may send a copy of the front and back of your insurance card to our Financial Coordinator to check your insurance benefits. Our office will file all insurance claims as a courtesy to our patients. This does not however, transfer the responsibility of your financial obligation to the insurance company.

Do I have to be referred by my dentist to schedule an appointment?

No, you can schedule an appointment for you or your child with Dr. McInnis at any time to discuss your orthodontic needs and set up a treatment plan.

How long will I be in orthodontic treatment?

Treatment time depends on each patient’s specific orthodontic needs and your choice of available treatment options. In general, treatment usually last from 6 months to 36 months depending on the complexity of treatment.

Will braces hurt?

Orthodontic treatment has advanced in recent years. New technology allows us to develop new options that work faster, are more comfortable or convenient, and deliver stellar results. However, you may experience minimal soreness for a few days after braces are placed. You can relieve the soreness with an over-the-counter pain reliever (use as directed).

What are the different types of braces?

Thanks to new technology, Dr. McInnis is able to offer several different types of braces. We offer Self-Ligating traditional metal or ceramic braces, Signature Aligners, or Invisalign/Invisalign Teen.

Can I get braces just on my Top or Bottom Teeth?

Braces do more than just adjust the appearance of your teeth. Orthodontic treatment is designed to correct bite relationships and alignment. While many people might not notice a problem with their bite, having a misalignment can cause an over or under bite, crossbites, bone and gum tissue loss or excessive wear to their teeth. Dr. McInnis wants to provide you with the healthiest bite, not just with straighter teeth.

Will I have to wear elastics with my treatment?

Elastics (also called rubber bands) focus on fixing your bite and the alignment of your teeth between your upper and lower jaws. Elastics maybe essential to obtain the ideal orthodontic end result and are required to be worn approximately 20-22 hours per day. The only time elastics should be removed is while eating, brushing and/or flossing your teeth. The elastics should be changed about three times a day (or after ever meal) so that they may hold enough elasticity for the movement needed.
